Intervention Services

Suicide Prevention Hotline:  596-LIFE (5433)

The Suicide Prevention Partnership operates the Suicide Prevention Hotline, founded in 1995.

The Hotline is staffed by 32 highly trained volunteer interventionists who assess lethality, determine if the caller is in danger, and proceed accordingly.  If the caller is not in immediate danger, the interventionist will work with the caller to identify the immediate cause of the problem, examine alternative courses of action, and develop an action plan.  Getting the caller’s agreement on the action plan relieves the caller’s anxiety and provides the motivation to get through the brief, intense period of emotional distress.

If the caller is in imminent danger, emergency personnel may be contacted.

Support Services

Heartbeat

Grief following suicide is a complex and sometimes overwhelming experience. Surviving the suicide of a friend or family member means grieving not only the loss, but the decision that caused the loss.  Friends and family, uncomfortable talking about the death, may leave you feeling isolated and confused

Heartbeat, a partner of SPP, provides support through monthly group interaction to families who have lost loved ones to suicide.  To find out more about Heartbeat, go to http://www.heartbeatsurvivorsaftersuicide.org/index.shtml.
